What is the best shop window for breeders

With the recent news that the BEF’s breeding operations are no longer to be run centrally but instead be put out to tender, some British Breeders have been expressing concerns that this is backward step for the industry. Some breeders are worried that without the backing of the BEF, buyers won’t consider a British bred foal, or assume that there isn’t the quality they need here in the UK.

But if you look outside of the Futurity, there are more initiatives than ever being launched to give UK breeders a shop window.

SHB(GB) Yorkshire Stallion Show 2017

The Yorkshire branch of the Sport Horse Breeding studbook is one of the most active, recognising Yorkshire bred stock at an annual awards dinner, running a popular summer show, and organising a stallion parade. For 2017 the stallion parade was held at Richmond Equestrian Centre on Sunday 12th March. A huge thank you to Sally Coles Photography for providing images from the day.

Badminton Horse Trials SHB(GB) Stallion Parade

Following the conclusion of the main horse trials dressage, the Sport Horse Breeding of Great Britain stud book organised a stallion parade of 9 of their graded stallions.

The stallions all paraded around the main ring together and then individually showed their basic paces in the dressage arena and then jumped over a fence in the adjoining area. There was only half an hour for the whole parade and so it was hard to watch each stallion both on the flat and over a fence, but there were certainly some interesting stallions for eventing breeders.
