2012 Chestnut Zangersheide 16.2hh

We may have some super established older stallions in the UK, but there are also some very exciting young stallions that deserve a closer long. Although he is only a young horse, Escape Z has already proved himself in young horse classes and is licensed with both the AES (Approved), Breeders Elite and his home studbook of Zangersheide (Lifetime Approval). He is co-owned by Danielle Ryder and his breeder Willem van Hoof.

He was the 2016 National 4 year old champion, scoring 10s for technique and ability and then went onto be equal 1st at the Addington Manor young horse championships and won the Northcote Stud 4yo championship. 2017 has seen that trend continue with numerous victories in the young horse CSI at Bonheiden and he was a spectacular equal 1st in the 5yo World Young Horse Championships at Zangersheide, gaining his lifetime approval with the studbook on the basis of that result.

In type Escape Z takes strongly after his sire, with the same strong loin connection as well as the flashy markings. Even though he seems to be stamping himself strongly on his foals, he particularly suits long lined mares who need a more compact body type without compromising on height.

Offspring:

With his first crop only 2017 foals, it is already clear that Escape Z stamps them all with a very similar body type and a very strong canter even from a variety of mares.

Escape Z’s sire Emerald van ‘t Ruytershof  is well established on the international circuit with Harrie Smolders, winning many Grand Prix and Nation’s Cups. In 2016 the combination had an outstanding result at the Longines FEI World Cup Final were they were the runners up behind Steve Guerdat and Corbinian, and competed at the Rio Olympics, qualifying for the individual final.

In 2017 the pair have added wins at the Global Champions Tour in Chantilly and top 3 placings at Valkenswaard and Versailles.  As a sire Emerald is already making an impact, with his exciting licensed son I’m Special de Muze winning numerous young horse classes and now jumping international 1.40m classes. Emerald has numerous offspring jumping internationally including AES licensed Jaguar VD Berghoeve (CSI5* with Matthew Sampson), Igor (GCT and winner 2017 Paris Masters with Jos Verlooy) and Jeunesse VT Paradijs (CSI5*).

I am sure readers may be starting to roll their eyes when I mention the importance of the damline for the 100th time, but Escape Z’s pedigree is another example of how important the damline is when evaluating a pedigree. His Elite dam Promesse hails from Holstein Stamm 18A2, which further back has also produced great horses such as Clinton, Chambertin and Cristallo.

Promesse is the dam of the international showjumper Untouchable (by Hors La Loi II) who competed at CSI5*/GCT level . He is also an establised sire with a number of approved sons including Untouched (Ben Maher, winning CSI5*), Uriko (S level jumper and sire of the Holstein licensing champion 2016) and is ranked 3rd on the KWPN stallion rankings. He is also the sire of Big Brother (Nations Cup and CSI5*), Carona (Grand Prix winner) and eventer Be Touchable (winner Blenhim ERM and Millstreet CCI3*)

Untouchable

Great grand dam Cerrie is the dam of the Grand Prix mare Hella and also the grand dam of  4 Oldenburg licensed stallions N’Oubliez Jamais (CSI3*), Comerade, Double Impact (CSI1*) and D’Artagnan (CSI2*), plus the international competitor Nickoletta (Int 1.45m), There are a large number of other very good sport horses from this immediate damline.

Interestingly in the third generation is a double cross to the stallion Carthago. Carthago competed at 2 Olympic games and and is the sire of Mylord Carthago (World & European Silver Medals), Old Chap Tame (Int Grand Prix and Nations Cup victor) and Davos (London Olympics Team Bronze medal).
