2006 Black KWPN 171cm
A Grand Prix prospect with a Grand Prix pedigree. That is the sort of stallion that breeders aiming to produce competitive sport horses need in the UK .
Bodyguard is a tall black KWPN approved stallion who is owned and competed by Lara Edwards at Inter 1 & 2 level (scoring almost 74% at Inter 1), with a Grand Prix debut on the cards for 2018. In 2017 he won the Sheepgate Tack & Togs Small Tour championship and has earned Lara her British flag at international small tour.
With a crop of nearly 100 foals in Holland, he has earned a dressage breeding value of 164 from the KWPN and has a KWPN approved son, Guardian S. He tends to stamp his height and level head, being used on sharper mares with success.
His oldest offspring are not many years under saddle but have already started to impress. They include:
Fardena ( x Trento B) – Elite IBOP (mare performance test)
Florance Christi ( x Lancet) – qualified for the Shearwater Finals. Now winning at Medium. Placed BD Winter Champs & Qualified BD Nationals 2017.
Gladstone ( x Sandro Hit)- Winner Shearwater 4yo Championship. Now competing at Advanced Medium with International para rider Sophie Wells. Qualified for the 2017 Nationals at Elementary and Medium.
Guardian S ( x Trento B) Approved KWPN. Won the KWPN 5yo selecton trial for the World Championships after which Anky Van Grunsven purchased a half share.
Riverrun ( x Devils Jump) – Higher First BEF Futurity
Bodyguard is a son of one of the most influential modern Trakehner stallions – Gribaldi. Gribaldi was the 1995 Trakehner Licensing Champion and after his move to Holland, he was ridden to considerable Grand Prix success by Edward Gal. His sire Kostolany was also trained to Grand Prix and was famous for not only performing the equine version of Phantom of the Opera but his incredible influence on the Trakehner breed (Silvermoon, Elfado, Saint Cyr).
Gribaldi’s most famous son is undoubtedly the record breaking Totilas, whose own sons are now starting to shine under saddle. Totilas was twice the individual World Champion, twice the World Cup champion and also won Team and Individual European titles. Other championship standard Grand Prix offspring of Gribaldi include Sister de Jeu, Painted Black, Unee BB, Atterupgaards Othilla and Thriller, with many more Grand Prix performers. He is also the sire of more influential stallions such as Rheinklang, Distelzar, Easy Game (sire of current sensation Millenium) and Hofrat (sire of Hotline). In 2014 he was the number 1 sire of dressage horses in the world.
Bodyguards’s dam Ulinda is a daughter of another very famous sire Negro. Negro is of course best known for his great son Valegro, who succeeded Totilas as the most successful modern dressage horse. Negro’s sire Ferro is another International Grand Prix horse who still has a huge influence on the bloodlines of the best international dressage horses.
In the third generation is another International Grand Prix stallion – Cocktail, sire of course of the great Dutch sire Jazz.
Ulinda has produced another small tour competitor in Fabiano and a number of daughters with predicates. Her half sister has produced the Inter 2 horse Winston and grandam Gasinda also competed successful to Inter 1. The damline has also produced the Grand Prix horse and licensed stallion Heruto.
