2007 Bay Thoroughbred 16.1hh

With a strong heritage of breeding eventers, hunters and show horses in the UK, our breeders are often searching for a new Thoroughbred sire to use to add blood to their breeding programme. A relatively new Thoroughbred stallion to the UK sport horse market is Ansiei, an Italian bred (with French and American bloodlines) and raced, SHB (GB) & ISH approved sire.

He retired to stud in 2014 in Ireland after a successful racing career, although he had covered some mares in 2012. He was a winner as a 2 year old and a Listed winner at 3, 2nd in the Group 2 Derby Italiano, was tested in Group 1 company and placed on his first outing over hurdles. His career earnings were over £168,000

He moved to stand at Springfield Stud in Shropshire in 2018 and is available through the stud both natural cover and chilled semen.

Ansiei’s older crops are now starting under saddle in Ireland.

Ansiei’s pedigree is of interest to the sport horse breeder as both top and bottom carry crosses to the Grey Sovereign sire line. Grey Sovereign became a very important sire for French jump racing and I confess I have a very soft spot for many stallions from this sire line. These include Kalaglow, Zeddaan, Caro and Fortino.

In sport horse breeding this sire line is evident. The important Thoroughbred sire Sir Shostakovich appears in a lot of jumping pedigrees was out of a Grey Sovereign daughter. Holstein jumping sire and international competitor Silbersee was by the Thoroughbred Silver Matal, a son of Fortino, and leading eventing sire Power Blade is a grandson of Fortino. The Holstein legend Clinton also carries this family further back through his sire Corrado.

Here in the UK, the stallion Weld (by Kalaglow) was a very good sire of show horses and eventers, and eventing stallion and HIS Premium stallion Accondy inherited his grey colour from his damsire Kalamoun. These are just some examples of the impact of his line into sport horse breeding.

Ansiei’s dam Albiatra has also produced the wining hurdler Boite who is now in his 7th consecutive season in training, and 5 time winner Nike Walker. Her daughter Santa Biatra (also by Highest Honor) was successful on the flat in France and has already produced a winning daughter.

Albiatra’s sire Dixieland Band was the sire of the HIS Premium stallion Bandmaster, who became a successful sire of show horses, eventers and some racing stock.
